I am so glad that Substack Reads led me to your essay. Reading it felt like dropping by a salon from another time. I found books I never heard of, connections with watches that mirror and wonderfully expand my own and just a lovely deep dive into this strange present that does feel like a backward lurch of time travel. I look forward to reading more.
Such a wonderful piece. I gave up wearing watches years ago. And now I’ve managed to “waste” 20 minutes on my addictive smartphone reading Substack while time flies!
Not that I need another book, but I’m on my way to ordering Time Shelter, and searching for clips of The Clock on YouTube. On my smartphone. 😊😁

For me the the message of history repeating itself resonates in a painful way, yet one we all need to feel and respond to. We all inherently know the universal and very human ethical guidance of the Golden Rule. Will enough of us stand up and say and do what we must? Virtues of justice, courage, and wisdom would imply that we are capable of doing so if we each choose to do so. Will we sacrifice ourselves for the sake of others, protect and fight for our freedom of choice, and sacrifice for those future souls who must live with our decision in this moment.

It’s really unfortunate that more people haven’t read and liked this article! This is one of the best written essays I’ve found in a while.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
What a lovely read this gloomy Sunday morning! Thank you. I will seek out Time Shelter & The Clock.
